Accessibility
Our target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA across this website. That is a pass or fail standard for us, not an aspiration: the site is checked against it automatically every time it is changed, and a failure stops the change from going out.
What that means in practice
- Every page works with a keyboard alone. There are no mouse-only controls.
- The first thing you can tab to on any page is a “skip to main content” link.
- Text and background colours were chosen to meet the contrast levels the standard requires, and were measured rather than estimated.
- Text resizes and reflows without anything being cut off or overlapping.
- Every form field has a label that is visible, not a placeholder standing in for one.
- If you have asked your device to reduce motion, the site does not animate.
- If you have asked your device for a dark colour scheme, the site follows it.
- The site works with JavaScript turned off, including the contact form.
What has been checked
Automated testing runs on every page for each change. Automated testing catches a real but limited share of accessibility problems, so it is a floor rather than a guarantee.
A manual review — keyboard-only navigation and a screen reader pass — has not happened yet. This section will be updated with the date and result once it has.
Telling us about a problem
If you cannot use part of this site, tell us through the contact form. A person reads every message, and a reply may take a few days. We would rather hear about a problem in whatever way is easiest for you than not hear about it at all.
